coffee for social responsability
"Coffee could be more than just a drink," says Marjan van Mourik, director of Paz Holandesa and Misti Coffee. During the talk, we will explore how coffee can be a force for good. Through the case study of Misti Coffee and Heilige Boontjes, we will seek answers on how the coffee industry can drive positive social, economic, and environmental impact — funding free medical care for children in need to supporting young and vulnerable youth.
Marjan van Mourik is a Dutch social entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience leading non-profit initiatives. She is the founder and director of PAZ-Holandesa, through which she realized the Children’s Hospital Tony Molleapaza Rojas in Arequipa, Peru. Since 2024, she has also been Director of Social Projects at Clinica PAZ-Holandesa. She launched Misti Coffee in 2025 as a creative fundraising tool for PAZ-Holandesa.
Rodney van den Hengel is the co-founder of the social initiative Heilige Boontjes. What do you get when a police officer and a former convict decide that reintegration can be better, more sustainable, and—above all—more fun? You get Heilige Boontjes (Holy Beans) — the kind that brews a seriously strong cup of comfort. Marco is a police officer and pedagogue, and Rodney is a reintegration expert and social developer. They know better than anyone how hard it is to get your life back on track. And they do it with coffee in an old police station where you can also enjoy a great breakfast, lunch, or dinner. You can even order a beer or a glass of wine with it. At Heilige Boontjes, we work with young Rotterdammers who live life on the edge. Most people see these youths as hopeless; we see them as full of potential. That’s why they don’t just get a shot at working with us; they are our team. Not just a few, but all of them.
The panel will be moderated by Thijs Hofman.
