





Perspectives from Antwerp: Caffènation
In this talk, Rob from Caffènation will reflect on Antwerp’s distinctive scene, compare it with Rotterdam’s emerging community, and explore how collaboration across cities can help address shared challenges and unlock new opportunities for our region’s coffee culture.
Rob Berghmans - founder and owner of Caffènation - born in 1967 in Belgium and working in the paint and hifi business from a relatively young age. Throwing himself in the food and beverage world with his own business in Antwerp specialized in juices and coffee mid 90’s. And founding Caffènation in 2003, as the first third wave espresso bar in Belgium. In 2010 he started roasting the beans by himself.
In 2025 Caffènation is a dynamic coffee company with 5 specialty bars, from which 4 in Antwerp and 1 in Amsterdam, a roastery and bakery. Caffènation now employs 40 people and sells coffee beans, compostable capsules, drip bags and liquid instant coffee all over Europe.
