Coffee and changing cities
Can cafés remain inclusive in rapidly changing neighbourhoods—or even counterbalance urban pressures? We’ll explore Rotterdam’s unique urban dynamics, identify areas most at risk, and discuss solutions to ensure the city remains equitable for everyone.
Donagh Horgan is an academic and practitioner in the field of regenerative placemaking and socio-spatial transformation. He is a senior researcher at Inholland University of Applied Sciences and lab lead of the Urban Leisure and Tourism lab, as well as a lecturer on Master's programmes with Breda University of Applied Sciences. His work crosses various research areas and touches upon, among other things, urban tourism; smart cities and open decision-making; and geospatial and transformative technologies for settlements. His research looks at social innovation in the built environment with a focus on quality of life and urban commons.
Ruben Kramer is the founder and owner of CultureHub in Rotterdam. He is a music producer, songwriter, and creative entrepreneur. CultureHub creates a warm “living room” space for creatives in Rotterdam, a place where emerging artists can experiment, collaborate, and present work in a supportive environment. He founded CultureHub around 5 years ago to fill the gap he saw: a mid-scale venue for artists to test and grow, bridging rehearsal, showcase, and community engagement.
